Did you get a shiny new iGadget over the holidays, or maybe are just looking for some great tools to help you be more productive and ready to conquer the world? Based on our exhaustive research (and some fun playing in the app store!), here’s our list for the apps that will get you to the next phase of productivity.
Evernote. You need to jot down a quick note – a shopping list, an idea, a reminder. Evernote is a clean, easy-to use app that lets you record whatever you have in mind on whatever device you have at hand. But the best part? It syncs notes across devices. So that shopping list you neatly typed out on your laptop is now accessible on your iPhone, and that brilliant business idea you thumb-typed out on the commute home will pop up at home when you’re ready to act on it. The basic app is free, but you can upgrade to a Premium account for $4.99 a month to get a beefed-up version including offline access and other treats.
LeaveNow - If you’re like me, you think of your appointments as something that just magically happen! I have a meeting at 2:00…. and it’s gonna take me half an hour to get there oh no I’m already late! LeaveNow calculates where you are, where you’re going, and alerts you when it’s time to get your show on the road, so to speak. It integrates with your Google calendar so that you only have to enter your information once, then you tell it whether you’re walking, driving or transit and it does the rest. Free.
Instapaper – Ever been breezing through your Twitter stream and see an article you’d love to read, but you don’t have time right now? Install this fantastic little app, which will then give you the option to “Read Later” on your Twitter stories. Then later, when you have time, open up Instapaper. You’ll find every article you wanted to read in a clean text-only format for you to read at your leisure. It’s a great way to keep you focused and let you save those juicy readables for a time you choose. App costs $3.99.
FreshBooks – Have you been creating all of your invoices in Word? Are you tracking your time on a scrap of paper – or worse yet, trying to figure your hours out at the end of the month through guesswork? Guess no more. FreshBooks allows you to track your time super easily by project and quickly and cleanly generate an invoice for a client. It also helps you calculate taxes, track your invoicing and accounts receivable and basically makes invoicing a pleasure instead of a pain. Imagine that!
App is free. Freshbooks gives you a 30 day free trial, and switches to a paid account after 30 days for users with more than 3 clients (it’s free for 3 or less!)
Here On Biz – Wouldn’t it be great to go on a business trip and be able to easily and quickly connect with other entrepreneurs nearby? Here On Biz is a nifty little app that ties to your LinkedIn. If you’re looking to make business connections in a specific location, just turn Here On Biz on and it will let you know who’s nearby and looking to brainstorm. It’s like FourSquare for Business. App Is Free.
